وكان قطن بن عمرو بن الأهتم فارسا شجاعا، وأخذه عبد الله بن خازم بخراسان فحبسه ثم اغتيل فهلك في محبسه، وفيه يقول الحريش بن هلال القريعي: إذا ذكر القوم الكماة تبادرت … عيون بني سعد على قطن دما على فارس لا يسقط الروع رمحه … إذا كان أصوات الكماة تغمغما وكان ربعي بن عمرو من رجال بني تميم، وكان ذا قدر، وفيه يقول إياس بن قتادة: وما كان ربعيّ ليفعل مثلها … بمثلي ولا عمرو بن قيس بن عاصم
