    ومحلّم بن جثّامة توجه في سرية فقتل عامر بن الأضبط الأشجعي وهو مسلم، فيقال إنه مات فلفظته الأرض على عهد النبي ﷺ، فقال النبي ﷺ: «الأرض تقبل من هو شر منه ولكن الله أراد أن يعظكم به»، ويقال انه بقي بعد النبي ﷺ، ومن قال انه مات على عهد النبي ﷺ قال الذي مات بحمص: الصعب أخوه، ونزل ناحزة موضع بحمص، وبقي إلى فتنة عبد الله بن الزبير. والليث بن جثامة. وقال الواقدي: قتل محلّم بن جثامة: عامر بن الأضبط الأشجعي في سنة ثمان، وقد كتبنا خبر محلم في أول كتابنا.
