جمح بن عمرو، وسهم بن عمرو وأمهما الألوف بنت عدي بن كعب بن لؤي، وكان اسم جمح تيما، واسم سهم زيدا فجلست الألوف يوما ومعها أترجة يقال انها كانت من ذهب ويقال من فضة، فدحت بها وقالت لتيم وزيد: استبقا إليها فمن أخذها فهي له فسبق إليها سهم، فأخذها فقالت: كأنك والله يا زيد سهم مرق من رميته، وكأنّ شيئا جمح بك عنها يا تيم، فقيل لهذا: أنت جمح، ولهذا: أنت سهم، فسميا بذلك. فولد جمح بن عمرو:
