وأما العاص بن هشام بن المغيرة بن عبد الله بن عمر بن مخزوم فإن أبا لهب لاعبه على إمرة مطاعة، فقمره أبو لهب فأسلمه قينا، ثم إنه لاعبه أيضا فقمره فأرسله مكانه إلى بدر فقتله عمر بن الخطاب. فحدثني أبو عدنان الأعور عن هشام ابن الكلبي عن أبيه قال: ساير علي بن عبد الله بن العباس بن عبد المطلب الحارث بن خالد بن العاص بن هشام بن المغيرة المخزومي فأصاب ساقه ركاب علي فقال: يا سبحان الله ما رأيت أحدا يساير الناس بمثل هذا الركاب، فقال علي: إنه من عمل قين كان بمكة يعرض بالعاص بن هشام حين أسلمه أبو لهب قينا. فولد العاص بن هشام: خالدا، والوليد.
