وأما محمد بن موسى بن طلحة، فكان على جيش أهل الكوفة أيام ساروا مع عمر بن عبيد الله بن معمر إلى أبي فديك الخارجي وهو باليمامة. وكان عمر بن موسى بن عبيد الله بن معمر على أهل البصرة، وكانا يتباريان في الفقه، فقال عبد الله بن شبل البجلي: يفضل عمر بن موسى - ويقال فضل الطلحي - على العمري. تباري ابن موسى يا بن موسى ولم تكن … يداك جميعا يعدلان له يداتباري امرأ إحدى يديه مفيدة … وأخراهما تبني بناء مشيدا ويروى: يسرى يديه مفيدة ويمناهما. ثم وجه عبد الملك: محمد بن موسى إلى شبيب الخارجي فقتله شبيب.
