وكان عقبة بن أبي معيط بن أبي عمرو بن أمية مطعاما للطعام. قال الشاعر: من سرّه شحم ولحم داهن … فليأت جفنة عقبة بن أبان وقال ضرار بن الخطاب: عين بكّي لعقبة بن أبان … قرم فهر وفارس الفرسان وكان عقبة من أشد الكفار على رسول الله ﷺ، وأسر عقبة يوم بدر فأمر عليا فقتله صبرا بعرق الظبية، وقد كتبنا خبره في أول كتابنا. وكانت لأبي معيط ابنتان: حكيمة وصفية وأمهما سالمة بنت أمية بن حارثة بن الأوقص السلمي.
