    أمر عباد المعافري قال أبو الحسن المدائني: خرج باليمن في أول سنة ست ومائة عباد المعافري فقابله مسعود بن عوف الكلبي، فلم يظفر به، فلم يزل باليمن حتى وليها يوسف بن عمر الثقفي فقتله. وخرج على يوسف زحّاف بن عباد الحميري الأباضي فبعث إليه يوسف كثيرا أبا العاج السلمي فقتله فقال جرير بن عطية. الله أهلك عبادا وشيعته … عادات ربك في أمثال عباد لاقوا بعوث أمير المؤمنين لهم … كالريح إذ بعثت نحسا على عاد فيهم ملائكة الرحمن ما لهم … إلا التوكل والتسبيح من زاد (¬١)
