    ٨١٥٣- معقل بن خويلد بن وائلة بن عمرو «٢» بن عبد ياليل الهذليّ.قال الرّشاطيّ: كان شاعرا، وكان أبوه رفيق عبد المطلب إلى أبرهة. قلت: ذكر ذلك ابن إسحاق، وذكره ابن قانع في الصحابة، وأخرج هو وابن مندة، من طريق ابن أبي ذئب، عن عبد اللَّه بن يزيد الهذلي، قال: كان بين أبي سفيان وبين معقل بن خويلد- وكان معقل وجيها فيهم، في سلب رجل من قريش، فقال النبي ﵌: يا معقل بن خويلد، اتّق معارضة قريش. قلت: وذكره المرزبانيّ في «معجم الشعراء» ، فقال: مخضرم، كان سيد قومه، فجاء إلى خالد بن زهير ابن أخت أبي ذؤيب الهذلي امرأة وابنتها في الجاهلية، فهجاه معقل، فأجابه خالد، فأصلح بينهما أبو ذؤيب، وأنشد ما تقاولوه في ذلك.
