هنري لاوست يقول هذا المستشرق الفرنسي: إن السلفية لقب يطلق على الحركة الوهابية لأنها أرادت إعادة الإسلام إلى صفائه الأول في عهد السلف الصالح إن هذه الحركة السلفية تتميز عن غيرها بأن نظرياتها أدنى إلى العقل وأنها تفتح باب الاجتهاد وتكافح الخرافات والغلو في الدين وتجتهد في التوفيق بين الدين وبين مطالب العصر.
