محمد بن أحمد بن عبد الله المعروف بابن العطار كان متفنناً في علوم الإسلام عارفاً بالشروط أملى فيها كتاباً عليه عول أهل زماننا اليوم وكان يفضل الفقهاء بمعرفته باللسان والنحو فكان يزري بأصحابه المفتين ويعجب بما عنده إلى أن تمالئوا عليه بالعداوة وحملوا قاضيهم بن زرب على إسقاطه والتسجيل بسخطه بجميع الجراح وأمضاها بن أبي عامر وأمره بالانقباض في داره وقطع شواره فناله مكروه عظيم ثم صرفه بن أبي عامر إلى حاله من الشورى وأفرده في الشورى ما بين العمال والرعية. وتوفي في عقب ذي الحجة سنة تسع وتسعين وثلاثمائة.
