    علي بن إسماعيل يعرف بابن سيده من أهل مرسية يكنى: أبا الحسن روى عن أبيه وعن أبي عمر الطلمنكي وصاعد اللغوي وغيرهم. وله تآليف حسان منها: كتاب المحكم في اللغة وكتاب المخصص وكتاب الأنيق في شرح الحماسة وغير ذلك.وذكر الوقشي عن أبي عمر الطلمنكي قال: دخلت مرسية فتشبث بي أهلها ليسمعوا علي غريب المصنف فقلت لهم: انظروا إلى من يقرأ لكم وأمسكت أنا كتابي فأتوني برجل أعمى يعرف بابن سيده فقرأه علي من أوله إلى آخره فعجبت من حفظه وكان أعمى بن أعمى. وذكره الحميدي وقال: إنه إمام في اللغة والعربية حافظ لهما وله مع ذلك في الشعر حظ وتصرف وشرح أبيات الجمل لأبي القاسم الزجاج. ومات قريباً من سنة ستين وأربعمائة.
