أسلم بن عبد العزيز الأموي الأندلسي المالكي أبو الجعد كان نبيلاً رئيساً كبير الشأن رحل فسمع من يونس بن عبد الأعلى والمزني وصحب بقي الدين بن مخلد وصحبه طويلاً ورحل إلى المشرق سنة ثنتين ومائتين فلقي بمصر: المزنيالشافعي ومحمد بن عبد الحكم ويونس والربيع وغيرهم وولي القضاء بالأندلس فكان محمود السيرة من عيون القضاة في إيثار الحق ونفوذه وكان صارماً لا هوادة عنده ثم استعفى فأعفي بعد أن كف بصره وكان رفيع الدرجة في العلم وعلو الهمة في الدراية وبعد الرواية والرحلة في طلب العلم ولقاء أهله. توفي سنة تسع عشرة وثلاثمائة وهو في عشر التسعين.
