أحمد بن بشير بن محمد بن إسماعيل يعرف بابن الأغبس أبو عمر قرطبي سمع بن وضاح والخشني ومطرف بن قيس وعبد الله بن يحيى وطاهر بن عبد العزيز. فتقدم في معرفة لسان العرب ولغاتها مشاور في الأحكام وكان يميل إلى النظر والحجة ربما أفتى بمذهب مالك وربما يعتني بمذهب الشافعي عالم فهم. لم يكن حفظ أصول مذهب مالك حفظاً حسناً واعتنى بكتب الشافعي وكان يميل إليه وكان إذا استفتى ربما يقول: أما مذهب أهل بلدنا فكذا وأما الذي أراه فكذا. شريف النفس قليل الاختلاف إلى أهل الدنيا. توفي سنة ثمان وعشرين وثلاثمائة وقيل سنة سبع وعشرين رحمه الله تعالى.
