    التَّوَّام (١٢٧٩ - ١٣٤٦ هـ = ١٨٧٨ - ١٩٤٥ م) عارف (أو محمد عارف) بن محمود التوام: باحث عسكري دمشقي المولدوالوفاة. تخرج بالمدرسة الحربية في استنبول، وعمل في الجيش التركي (العثماني) ثم في الجيش العربيّ إلى أن كان الاحتلال الفرنسي فانقطع إلى التعليم والنشاط الوطني. وكان من أعضاء جمعية (العهد) السرية. له كتب مدرسية، منها (مختصر التاريخ العام - ط) (١) . عارِف المُنَيِّر = محمد عارف ١٣٤٢ عارِق الطَّائِي = قيس بن جروة العاري = محمد بن إبراهيم ١١٩٩
