    صديق للقاسم الجوعي حدث أبو عبيد أن أول حجة حجها قدم إلى دمشق، فلقى قاسم بن عثمان الجوعي، فأعلمه أنه نوى الحج فقال: إذا أردت الخروج فائتني حتى أوصى بك بعض إخواني من العراق لتصحبه في طريقك، فلما قرب وقت الحج جاء قاسم ومعه جريب فيه رطل سويق وخمسة دنانير، فقال له قاسم: ما هذا؟ قال: شيء زودته. فقدم
