أبو شيبة من أصحاب عمر بن عبد العزيز قال أبو شيبة: إني لمع عمر بن عبد العزيز في دير سمعان في مجلس يرى منه الطريق، فتبين ليالغضب في وجهه، فأمسكت عن حديثه حتى صعد إلينا كاتبه الليث بن أبي رقية. فقال: يا ليث، يحضر معك رجل من المسلمين، وأنت ترفع دابتك لا تقف عليه تسأله عن حاجته؟ قال: ما فعلته في عسكرك إلا مرة، وما عجلت إلا إليك مخافة أن تسألني عن شيء من أمر المسلمين. قال: لئن عدت لم تصحبني.
