يساف بن شريح اليشكري قدم مع عبيد الله بن زياد دمشق. قال يساف بن شريح: لما خرج عبيد الله بن زياد من البصرة شيعته، فقال: قد مللت الخف، فأبغوني ذا حافر، فركب حماراً وتفرد وفي رواية: قد ثقل علي ركوب الإبل، فوطئوا لي على ذي حافر، فألقيت له قطيفة على حمار، فركبه، وإن رجليه لتكادان تخطان في الأرض فإنه ليسير أمامي إذ سكت سكتةً، فأبطأتها، فقلت في نفسي: هذا عبيد الله، أمير العراق أمس نائم الساعة على حمار، لو سقط منه لأبغضك قومك. فدنوت منه، فقلت: أنائم أنت؟ قال: لا، قلت: فما أسكتك؟ قال: كنت أحدث نفسي.
