مسلم مولى عمر بن عبد العزيز حكى، قال: دخلت على عمر بن عبد العزيز وعند كاتب يكتب. قال: وشمعة تزهر، وهو ينظر في أور المسلمين. قال: فخرج الرجل فأطفئت الشمعة وجيء بسراج إلى عمر، فدنوت منه فرأيت عليه قميصاً فيه رقعة قد طبق ما بين كتفيه. قال: فنظر في أمري. عن أبي سعد الإدريسي، قال: مسلم، كان من سبي سمرقند، فوقع لابنه لعمر بن عبد العزيز، فاشتراه منها عمر بن عبد العزيز فأعتقه، ثم ولد له بعد ذلك مولود فجاء به إلى عمر بن عبد العزيز، وهو ابن شهرين، فسماه عبد الله، وفرض له في الذرية، فعاش عبد الله عشرين ومئة سنة.
