عمر بن المورّق أظنّه مزنيّاً ويقال: يزيد بن عمر بن مورّق وفد على عمر بن عبد العزيز، وحدّث عنه. حدّث، قال: كنت بالشّام وعمر بن عبد العزيز يعطي النّاس، فتقدّمت إليه، فقال لي: ممّن أنت؟ فقلت: من قريش. قال: من أيّ قريش؟ قلت: من بني هاشم. قال: من أيّ بني هاشم؟ فسكتّ. فقال: من أيّ بني هاشم؟ فقلت: مولى عليّ بن أبي طالب. قال: فوضع يده على صدره فقال: وأنا مولى عليّ بن أبي طالب؛ حدّثني عدّة أنهم سمعوا رسول الله ﷺ يقول: " من كنت مولاه فعليّ مولاه ". يا مزاحم، كم يعطى أمثاله؟ قال: مئة درهم أو مئتي درهم. قال: أعطه خمسين دينار لولاية عليّ.
