علي بن مهدي بن المفرج بن عبد الله أبو الحسن الهلالي الطبيب سمع بدمشق وبغيرها، وقرأ شيئاً من الطب والهندسة، ولد سنة خمس وثمانين وأربع مئة. حدث عن أبي الفضل أحمد بن عبد المنعم بن الكريدي بسنده إلى ابن عمر قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ: " مثل المنافق مثل الشاة العابرة بين الغنمتين، إلى هذه مرة وإلى هذه مرة لا تدري أيهما تتبع ". توفي أبو الحسن بن مهدي سنة اثنتين وخمسين وخمس مئة.
