علي بن سراح بن عبد الله أبو الحسن بن أبي الأزهر المصري الحرسيّ مولاهم، الحافظ حدث عن محمد بن عبد الرحمن بن الأشعث بسنده إلى أبي هريرة: أنه أتى النّبي ﷺ فقال: إني كنت أصلّي فدخل عليّ رجل فأعجبه الحال التي رآني عليها. فقال: لك أجران: " أجر السّر وأجر العلانية ". توفي علي ين سراح بعد سنة ثلاث مئة، قيل: سنة ثمان وثلاث مئة. وكان يشرب المسكر ويسكر. قال محمد بن المظفر: رأيت علي بن سراح المصري سكران على ظهر رجل يحمله من ماخور. وقال الدارقطني: هو صالح.
