عثمان بن إسماعيل بن عمران أبو محمد الهذلي كان يسكن خارج باب الصغير. حدث عن الوليد بن مسلم بسنده إلى بلال بن سعد عن أبيه قال: قيل يا رسول الله، ماللخليفة من بعدك؟ قال: مثل الذي لي إذا عدل في الحكم، وقسط في القسط، ورحم ذا الرحم، فمن لم يفعل ذلك فليس مني ولست منه يريد الطاعة في الطاعة لله، والمعصية في المعصية لله. وحدث عثمان بن إسماعيل عن مروان الفزاري بسنده إلى أبي سعيد الخدري قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ: " لا تخيروا بين الأنبياء.
