سهل بن عبد العزيز بن مروان أخو عمر بن عبد العزيز قال عمر بن مهاجر: هلك سهل بن عبد العزيز أخو عمر فأمرني أن أحفر له، وقال: إذا حفرت له فلتكن قدر قامة أو إلى المنكب، فإن أعلى الأرض أطهر من أسفلها، ففعلت. قال مالك: قام عمر بن عبد العزيز إلى مصلاه، فذكر سهل بن عبد العزيز وعبد الملك ومزاحماً، فقال: اللهم أنك قد علمت ما كان من عونهم - أو معونتهم - إياي، فأخذهم فلم يزدني ذلك إلا حباً، ولا إلى ما عندك إلا شوقاً. ثم رجع إلى مجلسه. توفي بالشام سنة تسع وتسعين.
