زينب بنت الحسين بن علي ابن أبي طالب قدمت دمشق مع عيال أبيها بعد قتله. حدث حميد بن مسلم الأزدي قال: سماع أذني من الحسين وهو يقول: قتل الله قوماً قتلوك، يعني ابنه علي الأكبر بن الحسين، ما أجرأهم على انتهاك حرمة الرسول، على الدنيا بعدك الدبار. وكأني أرى امرأة خرجت كأنها شمس طالعة تنادي: يا أخاه فقيل: هي زينب بنت حسين وأكبت عليه، فجاء الحسين فأخذ بيدها وردها إلى الفسطاط.
