    الحسين بن أحمد بن رستم وقيل ابن أحمد بن علي ويقال: أبو علي، يعرف بابن زنبور الماذرائي الكاتب من كتاب الطولونية. قدم دمشق صحبة أبي الجيش بن طولون، وحكى عن البحتري وقصده أبا الجيش ومدحه إياه، وحدث، وكان من نبلاء الكتاب. أحضره المقتدر لمناظرة ابن الفرات، ثم خلع عليه، وقلده خراج مصر سنة ست وثلاث مئة، وأهدى للمقتدر هدية فيها بغلة، ذكر أن معها فلوها، وزرافة، وغلام عظيم السان طويله، يلحق لسانه طرف أنفه، ثم قبض عليه وحمله إلى بغداد وصودر وأخذ حيطة بثلاثة آلاف ألف وست مئة ألف، سنة إحدى عشرة وثلاث مئة. قيل: إنه مات بدمشق، سنة أربع عشرة، وقيل: سبع عشرة وثلاث مئة.
