إسماعيل بن أبان بن محمد بن حوي أبو محمد، السكسكي البتلهي روى عن جماعة، وروى عنه جماعة. روى عن أبي مسهر، بسنده عن أوس بن أوس الثقفي، عن النبي ﷺ قال: " من غسل واغتسل، وغدا وابتكر، ودنا ولم يلغ، كان له بكل خطوة مشاها عمل سنة صيامها وقيامها ". قال سعيد بن عبد العزيز: غسل رأسه واغتسل جسده. وعن أبي مسهر، قال: سمعت مالك بن أنس يقول: جنة العالم قوله: لا أدري، فإذا أضاعها أصيبت مقاتله. قال عمرو بن دحيم: هو من بيت لهيا، مات بها يوم الثلاثاء الثلاث عشرة ليلة خلت من ذي الحجة سنة ثلاث وستين ومئتين.
