    مالك الأشتر ? - ٣٧ هـ / ? - ٦٥٧ م مالك بن الحارث بن عبد يغوث النخعي المعروف بالأشتر. أمير من كبار الشجعان، كان رئيس قومه، أدرك الإسلام، وأول ما عرف عنه أنه حضر خطبة (عمر) في الجابية، سكن الكوفة وكان له نسل فيها، وشهد اليرموك وذهبت عينه فيها، وكان ممن ألّب على (عثمان) وحضر حصره في المدينة، وشهد يوم الجمل وأيام صفين مع علي، وولاه علي (مصر) فقصدها فمات في الطريق، فقال علي: رحم الله مالكاً فلقد كان لي كما كنت لرسول الله، له شعر جيد ويعد من الفرسان الأجواد العلماء الفصحاء، ولمحمد تقي الحكيم (مالك الأشتر- ط) .
