علي الغريفي الكبير ? - ١٢٤٤ هـ / ? - ١٨٢٨ م السيد علي بن إسماعيل بن محمد بن غياث البحراني الغريفي. من مشاهير علماء وأدباء عصره. قال عنه الشيخ جعفر النقدي في كتابه الروض النضير: كان من أهل العلم والفضل والتقوى، مدرساً مشهوراً في عصره يدرس علمي الفقه والأصول. ولد في البحرين ونشأ بها على مجموعة من علمائها الأفذاذ، ثم هاجر إلى النجف فراراً من جور الظلمة، فأخذ عن مشايخها. توفي بالطاعون الكبير بالعراق، له شعر رقيق قوي الديباجة.
