حمزة قفطان ١٣٠٧ - ١٣٤٢ هـ / ١٨٨٩ - ١٩٢٣ م حمزة بن مهدي الشهير بقفطان. شاعر مطبوع، وفاضل أديب، وشخصية مرموقة. ولد بحي واسط ونشأ بها، فدرس المقدمات على أخيه الشيخ محمد صالح الذي كفله منذ الصغر. ثم هاجر إلى النجف لإكمال دراسته، وخلال ذلك برز شاعراً له ميزات علمية وأدبية. توفي في الحي ونقل جثمانه إلى النجف فدفن بها.
