    ٢٥٦١ -[صح] خليفة بن خياط [خ] العصفرى البصري الحافظ، شباب، صاحب التاريخ. عن جعفر بن سليمان، ومعتمر بن سليمان، ويزيد بن زريع، وخلق. وعنه البخاري، وأبو يعلى، وعبدان، وخلق. غمزه ابن المديني بعض الغمز، فقال: لو لم يحدث لكان خيرا له. وقال ابن أبي حاتم: انتهى أبو زرعة إلى أحاديث كان أخرجها في فوائده عن شباب العصفرى، فلم يقرأها علينا فضربنا عليها. وقال أبو حاتم: لا أحدث عنه. هو غير قوى، كتبت من مسنده ثلاثة أحاديث عن أبي الوليد (٢) ، فسألته عنها فأنكرها، وقال: ما هذه من حديثى. وقال ابن عدي: صدوق متيقظ. وقال مطين: مات سنة أربعين ومائتين.
