    ٢٦٤٩ - زهير بن معاوية بن حديج بن الرحيل بن زهير بن خيثمة بن أبي حمران. واسمه الحارث بن معاوية بن الحارث بن مالك بن عوف بن سعد بن حريم بن جعفي ابن سعد العشيرة من مذحج. ويكنى زهير أبا خيثمة. تحول إلى الجزيرة فنزلها حتى توفي بها. أخبرنا عمرو بن خالد المصري قال: وسمعت سعيد بن منصور يثني عليه خيرا ويأمر بالكتاب عنه. قال: قدم زهير بن معاوية الجزيرة سنة أربع وستين ومائة. أو أول سنة ثلاث وسبعين ومائة. في خلافة هارون. وكان ثقة ثبتا مأمونا كثير الحديث.
