أَبو تُرَاب النَّخْشَبي (٠٠٠ - ٢٤٥ هـ = ٠٠٠ - ٨٥٩ م) عسكر بن الحصين (أو ابن محمد بن الحسين) النخشبي، أبو تراب: شيخ عصره في الزهد والتصوف. اشتهر بكنيتهحتى لا يكاد يعرف إلا بها. وهومن أهل " نخشب " من بلاد ما وراء النهر، قال المناوي: عربت فقيل لها نسف. كتب كثيرا من الحديث. وأخذ عنه الإمام أحمد بن حنبل آخرون. قال ابن الجلاء: لقيت سمائة شيخ، ما رأيت فيهم مثل أربعة أولهم أبو تراب. وقف ٥٥ وقفة بعرفة. ومات بالبادية، قيل: نهشته السباع (١) .
