    كنانة مولى صفية بنت حيي، يقال: اسم أبيه نبيه. روى عن: مولاته، وعن عثمان بن عفان، وأبي هريرة، والأشتر. روى عنه: زهير، وحديج ابنا معاوية، ومحمد بن طلحة بن مصرف، وهاشم بن سعيد الكوفي، وسعدان بن بشر الجهني. ذكره ابن حبان في الثقات. قلت: وذكره الأزدي في الضعفاء، وقال: لا يقوم إسناد حديثه. وقال الترمذي بعد أن أخرج من طريق هاشم بن سعيد عنه حديثا: ليس إسناده بذاك. وقال في موضع آخر: ليس إسناده بمعروف. وقال ابن عدي: حدثنا إبراهيم بن محمد بن سليمان، حدثنا عمرو بن علي، حدثنا يزيد بن مغلس الباهلي وكان من الثقات، حدثنا كنانة بن نبيه مولى صفية، فذكر الحديث الذي أخرجه الترمذي.
