    محمد بن أحمد بن معدان أبو بكر الثقفي مولاهم الأصبهاني. سمع: سلم بن جنادة، وموسى بن عامر الدمشقي، وإبراهيم بن سعيد الجوهري والرّبيع المرادي، وأحمد بن الفرات، وعدة. وعنه: أبو الشَّيخ، والطَّبراني، وأبو بكر بن المقرئ، وأهل بلده. قال أبو الشَّيخ: هو محدَّث ابن محدَّث، كثير التصانيف. وقال الذَّهبي: الإمام الحافظُ المصنف. قال أبو الشَّيخ: توفي بكرمان سنة تسع وثلاث مئة.
