    جعفر بن أحمد بن سنان بن أسد الواسطي القطان الحافظُ أبو محمد. سمع: أباه الحافظُ أبا جعفر القطان، وتميم بن المنتصر، وأبا كريب، وهناد ابن السري، وسليمان بن عُبيد الله، ومحمد بن بشار بندارا، وطبقتهم. حدَّث عنه: ابن عدي، والقاضي يوسف الميانجي، وأبو عَمرو بن حمدان، وأبو بكر بن المقرئ، وخلق كثير. قال الدَّارقطني: ثقة. ووصفه الذَّهبي بـ: الحافظُ. وقال: توفي سنة سبع وثلاث مئة. "السير" (١٤/ ٣٠٨). قُلتُ: روى عنه: (الطَّبراني). *
