أحمد بن يحيى بن يزيد أبو العبَّاس الشيباني مولاهم البغدادي. ثعلب النحوي صاحب الفصيح، والتصانيف. سمع: من إبراهيم بن المنذر، ومحمد بن سلام الجمحي. وكان يقول: وأنا ابن ثماني عشرة سنة، ولما بلغت خمسا وعشرين سنة ما بقي علي مسألة للفراء، وسمعت من القواريري مئة ألف حديث. قال الذَّهبي: العلامة المحدِّث إمام النحو. وقال: ولد سنة مئتين.
