داود بن علي بن خلف الأصفهاني : ولد سنة اثنتين ومائتين ومات سنة سبعين ومائتين وأخذ العلم عن إسحاق بن راهويه وأبي ثور وكان زاهداً متقللاً. قال أبو العباس أحمد بن يحيى ثعلب (١) : كان داود عقله أكثر من علمه. وقيل أنه (٢) كان في مجلسه أربعمائة صاحب طيلسان أخضر وكان من المتعصبين للشافعي وصنف كتابين في فضائله والثناء عليه وانتهت إليه رياسة العلم ببغداد، وأصله من أصفهان ومولده بالكوفة، ومنشؤه ببغداد، وقبره بها في الشونيزية.ثم أبو جعفر
