[٧٧٠] محمد بن علي الدمشقي، أبو بكر. قال الحاكم: كان من الغرباء الذين وردوا على أبي بكر بن خزيمة سنة عشر وثلاثمائة، وأحد الجواليق في طلب الحديث، سمع عبدان الأهوازي وأبا خليفة، وببغداد جعفر الفريابي وأقرانه، وكان قد أدرك بالشام أصحاب زبريق وغيرهم، وبالجزيرة أصحاب المعافى، ثم أقام بنيسابور مدة، وخرج إلى بخارى وأقام بها، ووقع له اتصال بالشيخ أبي جعفر العتبي الوزير لميله إلى هذه الطائفة، فبقي معه، إلى أن ماتا جميعًا ببخارى. توفي أبو بكر الدمشقي ﵀ ببخارى سنة اثنتين وسبعين (¬١) وثلاثمائة، وأبو جعفر بعده بسنين.
