(٨٣١) وأخوه: عائذ (¬٥) بن ماعص بن قيس بن خلدة بن عامر بن زريق (¬٦). وأمه: من أشجع. آخى رسول الله ﷺ بينه وبين سويبط بن عمرو العبدري (¬٧). شهد عائذ: بدرا، وأحدا، ويوم بئر معونة، وقتل يومئذ شهيدا (¬٨).قال محمّد بن عمر: وسمعت من يذكر أنه لم يقتل يوم بئر معونة، وإنما الذي قتل يومئذ أخوه معاذ بن ماعص، وأما عائذ بن ماعص فشهد يوم بئر معونة، والخندق، والمشاهد كلها مع رسول الله ﷺ، وشهد يوم اليمامة، مع خالد بن الوليد، وقتل يومئذ شهيدا (¬١)، سنة اثنتي عشرة، في خلافة أبي بكر الصديق ﵁.
