محمد بن علي بن عبد الله السُّلمي من بغداد، هو محمد بن علي بن عبد الله بن يعقوب بن إسماعيل بن إبراهيم بن الحسن بن يزيد بن عُتبْة بن فرقد: أبو الحسن السُّلَمي ويعرف بالحبريِّ، لأنه كان يبيع الحبر بباب الشام - ببغداد، وقد روى حديثًا بسنده المتصل إلى أبي أمامة قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ: (لا يقرم الرجل من مجلسه إلا لبني هاشم)، وقد وثقه الحنطيب البغدادي، قال: (سألت عبد العزيز بن علي، عن هذا الشيخ؟ فقال: بَغداديٌّ ثقة (¬٢)).
