    المعافري والمعقري فـ (المعافري) جماعة، وهم يكتبونه كثيراً بطرح الألف. و (المعقري) بالميم المفتوحة والعين الساكنة والقاف المكسورة. كذا ضبطه ابن الحذاء بخطه، هو: أحمد بن جعفر المعقري، نسب إلى بلدٍ باليمن، روى عن النضر بن محمد، وهو من شيوخ مسلم بن الحجاج. هكذا ضبطته عن شيوخي في «المسند» لمسلم، وقيده أبو الوليد بن الفرضي في كتاب «مشتبه النسبة» له: المعقري - بالميم المضمومة والعين المفتوحة والقاف المشددة، وذكر عن أبي الفضل الهروي: أنه نسب إلى بلدٍ باليمن.
