    معتبٌ ومغيثٌ (معتبٌ) بعينٍ مهملة وتاءٍ منقوطة باثنتين من فوق بعدها باءٌ منقوطةٌبواحدةٍ، في ثقيفٍ، وهو: معتب بن مالك بن كعب بن عمرو بن سعد بن عوف بن ثقيف. منهم: عروة بن مسعود بن معتب. والمغيرة بن شعبة بن أبي عامر بن مسعود بن معتب. وجبير بن حية بن مسعود بن معتب، وابنه: زياد بن جبير. ويقال في هذا كله: معتب ومعتب -بفتح العين وتسكينها-. و (مغيث) بغينٍ معجمةٍ وثاءٍ مثلثةٍ؛ جماعةٌ، منهم: مغيث زوج بريرة، أتى ذكره في حديث عائشة وبريرة، إذ عتقت فخيرت فيه.
