    السلمي والسلمي فـ (السلميون) بضم السين؛ كثير، منسوبون إلى بني سليم بن منصور بن عكرمة بن خصفة بن قيس بن عيلان. و (السلمي) بفتح السين واللام، من ينسب إلى بني سلمة -بكسر اللام- من الأنصار، فإذا نسبت فتحت اللام، فقلت: سلميٌ، كما يقولون في شقرة شقري، منهم: معاذ بن جبل على اختلافٍ في ذلك، يقال: إن معاذاً من بني أدي ابن سعد أخي سلمة بن سعد بن الخزرج، وقد قال ابن إسحاق غيرذلك -أيضاً-. وأبو قتادة الحارث بن ربعي، وجابر بن عبد الله بن عمرو بن حرام.
