٢٥٩ - أبو العشائر فراس بن علي بن زيد بن معروف بن مهنا الكناني العسقلاني: أحد العدول بمدينة دمشق وأجلهم قدرا. سمع من شيخ الشيوخ أبي الحسن عبد اللطيف بن إسماعيل بن أبي سعد البغدادي وأبي طاهر بركات بن إبراهيم الخشوعي وغيرهما، وحدث بدمشق ومصر. سمعت منه وسألته عن مولده فقال: في ذي القعدة سنة "ثلاث وثمانين وخمسمائة" بدمشق. وتوفي بها ليلة الخميس خامس عشر شعبان سنة "ثلاث وستين وستمائة". وذكر أيضا في باب "مهنا". وذكر في باب "فرج" بالفاء المنقوطة بواحدة وبعدها راء وجيم، جماعة، وفاته:
