قدومه دهلي وبدؤه دراسة كتاب الكافية في النحو: عاد والدي من الحج، فأبدى له رغبته في استصحابه إلى "دهلي"، فرضيت أم حضرة الشيخ بذلك فما كان من الوالد، إلا أن خرج به من الوطن في آخر أيام من ذي الحجّة عام ١٢٥٩ هـ. ووصل حضرة الشيخ "دهلي" في الثاني من محرم عام ١٢٦٠ هـ، وفي الرابع منه بدأ دراسته بـ "كتاب الكافية" في النحو، وبدأت أنا دراستي بـ "الميزان" في الصرف، وبـ "كلستان" في الفارسية، وكان الوالد أمر حضرةالشيخ أن يستمع لما كنت أدرسه من الأبواب الصرفية في "الميزان" وتعليلاتها، وقد تعودنا المناقشة في الأبواب الصرفية والأعاريب في كلّ ليلة من ليالي الجمعة، حيث تكون عطلة أسبوعية.
