المفضل بن سلمة بن عاصم أبو طالب. حَدَّثَ عن عمر بن شبة، ومُحَمد بن شداد المسمعي، ويعقوب بن إسحاق بن أبي إسرائيل. وله كتاب ضياء القلوب، وغيره من الكتب في الأدب، وكان فهما فاضلا. رَوَى عنه: محمد بن يحيى الصولي، وزعم أنه سمع منه في سنة تسعينومائتين قال: وكان منزله بباب خراسان، وأبوه سلمة بن عاصم صاحب الفراء، وابنه أبو الطيب بن المفضل بن سلمة كان أحد شيوخ الفقهاء الشافعيين.
