    ٦٩٧- خلف بن أحمد يعرف بابن جعفر قال أبو عمر بن عبد البر: هو من موالي بني أمية، وكان من ألزم الناس لأحمدبن مطرف بن عبد الرحمن المعروف بابن المشاط صاحب الصلاة، ولأحمد بن سعيد بن حزم صاحب التاريخ في الرجال، ولما سأل الحكم المستنصر أحمد بن مطرف عن من يلازمه من أحدث قرطبة ممن يصلح أن يؤمل لحال رفيعة أشار به، وكان أحد رجال القاضي محمد بن يبقى بن زرب العدول، سمع من أحمد بن سعيد تاريخه الكبر في التعديل والتجريح. قال أبو عمر: لم أجده كاملاً عند أحد من رواته غيره، ولم يكمل إلا له ولأحمد بن محمد الإشبيلي الرجل الصالح المعروف بابن الحرار فيما ذكروا والله أعلم.
