شهر بن حوشب قال القتيبى: كان ضعيفًا، قال: حدثنا إسحاق بن راهويه، عن النضر بن شميل، قال: ذكر شهر عند ابن عون، فقال: إنّ شهرًا تركوه إنَّ شهرًا تركوه . قال: ودخل بيت المال، فأخذ خريطة فقال الشاعر: لقد باع شهر دينه بخريطة ... فمن يأمن القراء بعدك يا شهر قال ابن إسماعيل: فقال: إن شهرًا سرق عيبة عباد بن منصور . ابن أبى خيثمة، حدثنا يحيى بن معين، حدثنا مسلم أحسبه عن رجل آخر ذهب على يحيى اسمه، قال: كنت مع شهر بن حوشب فى طريق مكة، قال: فكنا إذا نزلنا منزلًا، قال: هاتوا عودنا سووا طنبورنا، فإنا إنما نأكل به خبزنا، يعنى الحديث.
