    هلال بن خباب العبدي أبو العلاء معدود في البصريين وفي الموالي وولاؤه لزيد بن صوحانعن سعيد بن جبير وميسرة أبي صالح ويحيى بن جعد وغيرهموعنه عباد بن العوام ومسعر بن كدام وهشيم بن بشير وغيرهمأطلق يحيى بن معين وأحمد بن حنبل ومحمد بن عبد الله بن عمار وغيرهم القول بتوثيقه وأثبته بن حبان في الثقات وقال يخطىء ويخالف وقال أبو أحمد بن عدي أرجو أنه لا بأس به ووهم من اعتقد أن يونس بن خباب وصالح بن خباب أخوان له قال يحيى القطان تغير قبل موته واختلط وقال مرة أتيته وكان قد تغيروقال العقيلي في حديثه وهم وتغير بأخرة وذكره فيهم صاحب الاغتباط روى له أبو داود والترمذي والنسائي وابن ماجة
