    أبو الحسن البسطامي قال: الأكل على الشبع داء، والشرب على الجوع ردى وقال: راحة الجسم في قلة الطعام وراحة الروح في قلة الكلام، وراحة العقل في قلة الاهتمام. وقال: اجتنب ثلاثة وعليك بأربعة، ولا حاجة لك إلى الطبيب: اجتنب الغبار والنتن والدخان، وعليك بالحلو والدسم والحمام والطيب مع الاقتصاد. وقال: عمى العقل داء لا دواء له.
